How To Buff Corian Countertops

Corian countertops are a popular choice for kitchens and bathrooms because they are durable, easy to clean, and come in a variety of colors and patterns. However, over time, Corian countertops can become dull and scratched. Buffing is a process that can restore the shine to your Corian countertops and remove minor scratches.

There are two ways to buff Corian countertops: by hand or with a machine. Buffing by hand is a more labor-intensive process, but it is also more precise. Buffing with a machine is faster, but it is important to use the correct type of machine and buffing pad.

Materials you will need:

  • Clean cloths
  • Soft-bristled brush
  • Denatured alcohol
  • Buffing compound
  • Buffer (optional)

Instructions:

Buffing by hand:

  1. Clean the countertop with a clean cloth and denatured alcohol. Allow the countertop to dry completely.
  2. Apply a small amount of buffing compound to a clean cloth.
  3. Rub the buffing compound in a circular motion over the countertop. Apply light pressure and avoid scrubbing too hard.
  4. Continue rubbing until the countertop is shiny and the scratches are removed.
  5. Wipe the countertop with a clean cloth to remove any excess buffing compound.

Buffing with a machine:

  1. Clean the countertop with a clean cloth and denatured alcohol. Allow the countertop to dry completely.
  2. Attach a soft-bristled buffing pad to the buffer.
  3. Apply a small amount of buffing compound to the buffing pad.
  4. Turn on the buffer and hold it against the countertop. Apply light pressure and move the buffer in a circular motion.
  5. Continue buffing until the countertop is shiny and the scratches are removed.
  6. Wipe the countertop with a clean cloth to remove any excess buffing compound.

Tips:

  • Always test the buffing compound on a small, inconspicuous area before applying it to the entire countertop.
  • Buff in small sections, working your way across the countertop.
  • Do not apply too much pressure when buffing, as this can damage the countertop.
  • If you are using a machine, be sure to use a soft-bristled buffing pad. A hard-bristled pad can scratch the countertop.
  • Buffing Corian countertops can be a messy process. Be sure to cover the surrounding area with a drop cloth or plastic sheeting.
  • Buffing Corian countertops regularly will help to keep them looking their best.
