Countertop Ice Maker Not Making Ice

If your countertop ice maker isn't making ice, there are a few things you can check to troubleshoot the problem.

First, make sure that the ice maker is turned on and that the water supply is connected properly. The water supply should be connected to the back of the ice maker, and the ice maker should be plugged into an electrical outlet.

If the ice maker is turned on and the water supply is connected properly, the next step is to check the water filter. A clogged water filter can restrict the flow of water to the ice maker, which can prevent it from making ice. To check the water filter, remove it from the ice maker and hold it up to a light. If you can't see light through the filter, it needs to be replaced.

If the water filter is not clogged, the next step is to check the evaporator coils. The evaporator coils are located inside the ice maker, and they help to freeze the water into ice. If the evaporator coils are frosted over, the ice maker will not be able to make ice. To defrost the evaporator coils, unplug the ice maker and let it sit for a few hours. Once the evaporator coils are defrosted, plug the ice maker back in and try making ice again.

If the evaporator coils are not frosted over, the next step is to check the thermostat. The thermostat controls the temperature inside the ice maker, and if it is set too high, the ice maker will not be able to make ice. To check the thermostat, remove the front panel of the ice maker and locate the thermostat. The thermostat is usually a small dial or knob. Turn the thermostat to a lower setting and try making ice again.

If the thermostat is set to a low setting and the ice maker is still not making ice, the problem may be with the compressor. The compressor is the part of the ice maker that circulates the refrigerant, and if it is not working properly, the ice maker will not be able to make ice. To check the compressor, listen for a humming sound when the ice maker is running. If you don't hear a humming sound, the compressor may be faulty and will need to be replaced.
